Invitation to GCI Exhibition: Revisiting Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy
The exhibition ‘Revisiting Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy’ organized by Groningen Confucius Institute will be on view at the China Cultural Center in The Hague from 14 to 26 April 2018, showcasing works by calligrapher Mr. Zhang Qieyi and painter Ms. Zhang Huirong.
Using traditional brush painting and ink techniques, the displayed works are a modern celebration of ancient Chinese Art. An invitation into everyday life scenes from a bygone era, depicting landscapes and portraits in stunning detail and drawing inspiration from the unfading wisdom of ancient Chinese philosophers.

About Calligrapher
Zhang Qieyi, a native of Weishan County, Shandong Province, is reputed as the best calligrapher of Mega Character in China. He was born into a family of calligraphy and painting art and has received careful instruction from well-known calligraphers of both Southern and Northern Schools of calligraphy. He is devoted to the comprehensive presentation of the art of poetry, calligraphy, paintings, and seals and refinement of traditional Chinese cultural values. His calligraphy works are a composite of both aesthetic sense and philosophical implication, with high appreciation and collection values. They have been exhibited successively in Croatia, Japan, South Korea and many other places.

About Painter
Zhang Huirong, born in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Fujian Institute of Education. Famous for her recreation of the original artwork of ancient Chinese paintings, she is hailed as the best in simulation of ancient paintings in the Chinese art community. Her reproduction of The Night Revels of Han Xizai by Gu Hongzhong of the Five Dynasties and Along the River During the Qingming Festivals by Zhang Zeduan of the Song Dynasty in ten years in the size of the original paintings, are rare treasures of great historical, cultural and art collection value. From 2015 to 2017, her works have been exhibited in the United States, Britain and other countries and won various awards.
