GCI Established Its 9th Confucius Classroom at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar (RLW)

On Friday 7 April 2017, the 9th Confucius Classroom of Groningen Confucius Institute (GCI) in The Netherlands was opened at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar (RLW). The Chinese Ambassador Mr. Wu Ken, the Mayor of Wassenaar Mr. Charlie Aptroot, and the Chinese director of GCI Mrs. Jingyi Liu jointly unveiled the plaque of the Confucius Classroom, this significant moment was witnessed by the principal of RLW Mr. Jan Leuiken, the Chinese teacher of RLW Mrs. Gwendolyn Tates, and 200 others in the audience.

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level between China and the Netherlands, Ambassador Wu brought a special gift to the event, a film on Wu Wen(武雯) and Xing Ya(星雅), the two Chinese Giant Pandas that will arrive in the Netherlands on 12 April. In his speech, Ambassador Wu compared Chinese as a key to a better understanding of the rich Chinese culture, and encouraged the students to play a role of future ambassadors of friendships between the two countries.

During the ceremony, all the Chinese language and cultural performances were highly appreciated by the audience: Chinese poem recital Farewell to Cambridge and Chinese folk dance with cucurbit flute music Bamboo Under the Moonlight performed by GCI teachers; Chinese rap, singing and other performances by RLW students.
