2018 Chinese Bridge Competition for Dutch Secondary School Students
In order to provide a stage for the students to show their Chinese language capacity, and meanwhile enhance Chinese enthusiasts' understanding of Chinese language and culture, the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands and the Groningen Confucius Institute will jointly organize the 2018 Chinese Proficiency Competition for Dutch Secondary School Students and the Preliminary of the 11th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students in the Netherlands.
I. Time
14 April 2018 (Saturday)
(Tentatively 13:30-18:00; the time will be adjusted according to the actual situations of contestants.)
II. Location
China Cultural Center Den Haag
Spui 186, 2511 BW, Den Haag
III. Participants
Dutch secondary school students, aged 15 to 20 years old, with Dutch nationality, born and raised outside of China, non-native speakers of Chinese, and have not attended and/or watched the Chinese Bridge finals in China.
Ⅳ. Content of the competition
The competition consists of three parts: knowledge quiz, speech, and talent show. The contestants draw lots to decide their order. The full mark is 100 points. Please click here to download the scoring criteria.
Part 1: Knowledge Quiz
The quiz takes the written form, covering Chinese culture, national conditions, Chinese language knowledge, etc. The full mark of this part is 30 points. Please click here to download the quiz questions for preparation.
NOTE: The questions are for reference only. Actual examination questions are not completely from this test question bank.
Part 2: Speech
This section includes 3 parts: self-introduction, a prepared speech and an impromptu speech. Every contestant is allotted 4 minutes. The full mark of this part is 40 points. Each contestant needs to prepare a one-minute self-introduction and a 2-minute unscripted speech before the competition. Contestants are free to choose their own speech topics. Contestants will draw lots to get their topic for the impromptu speech before getting on stage. Each contestant is allotted six minutes to prepare for a one-minute impromptu speech.
NOTE: The topics of the impromptu speech cover Chinese culture, national conditions, Chinese language knowledge, etc. Contestants can click here to download the example topics. Topics on the day of competition are not necessarily from the example topics.
Part 3: Talent Show
Each contestant has a maximum of 3 minutes to show their talent that they have prepared based on their individual skills and interests. The full mark of this part is 30 points.
After the competition, there will be a Chinese style art performance(45 minutes).
V. Prizes and Awarding Methods
- The competition awards two first prizes, two second prizes, three third prizes, and several honorable mentions.
- There are two single prizes: Best Elegance Award, for the highest scoring individual in the part of individual speech; Best Talent Award, for the highest scoring individual in the part of talent show.
- Winners of the first are likely to be recommended to participate in the semi-final of the 11th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students to be held in China in 2018 (to be confirmed in due time). If approved by Hanban, Hanban will provide the contestants with the round-trip international airfare, and accommodation and transportation expenses for the competition in China.
VI. Registration
Each registered school please recommends a lead teacher, who will be responsible for the registration and communication. The competition committee does not accept any personal application.
Please log on to the website to submit the application, the deadline is 14 March 2018, maximum 5 contestants from each school.
We also welcome schools that don’t have contestants and individuals to watch the competition, for registration please log on to this website to register, the deadline is 14 March 2018.
